HE’S JUST A BOY He stands on the field, with his heart beating fast The whistle has blown, the die has been cast Mum and Dad cannot help him, he stands all alone A goal at this moment would see his team home. The ball’s at his feet, he kicks and he misses There’s a groan from the crowd, some boos and some hisses thoughtless voice bellows: “Now take off that bum!” Hot tears fill his eyes: his game’s no longer fun. So if you’re tempted to shout or to moan It is just a small boy who is standing alone So open your heart and just give him a break As it’s moments like these when a man you could make Please keep this in mind, should some other forget That it’s just a small boy there, he’s not a man yet. -------------------------------------------------------------- Bearsted Girls Under 10 – Poems The Bearsted under 10 girls team Manager set a challenge to the girls to come up with a better poem than the one that he published in their December news letter, here are their efforts which are of course better than his! 1,2,3, Who are we? With Colin’s coaching we’ve gone far, To the top of the league hip, hip, HOORAH By Alessia Russo Determination by Rachel Stevens The blue and white stripe Go out to fight With all their might With mud on their boots Holding them down don’t stop them scoring a goal They never give up if they loose the ball They will just chase them down to get the ball back again They do excellent passes throughout the game Sometimes their passing gets the goals And then they go back in their half And celebrate! Bearsted’s Little Ditty by Charlotte Maxwell and Honour Wheeler Bearsted girls are THE best, We know we can beat the rest! We will stay top of the league To make all the coaches really pleased Blue Bananas are away Gilbert and Stamper are home to stay We’d like to thank Colin and Steve, And wish and hope they’ll never leave. What a fantastic effort by the girls well done to them all but it was Charlotte and Honour’s poem that was voted best of the bunch due to the clever way that they included the teams sponsors into their verse. |
